Ladonna

1.Where are you from?
I am from Dallas, Texas USA.

2. What is your occupation?
I am a student enrolled at Long Island University in Southampton, New York. However, I am studying in Kyoto, Japan as a "Friends World" student. With various centers around the world, the "Friends World Program" is an international 4-year accredited college that encourages global understanding through first-hand experiences while studying at FW centers around the world. There are 8 FW centers. Check em' out at: http://www.southampton.liu.edu/fw/

3. How long have you been in Kyoto?
I've been in Kyoto for 6 months off and on.

4. Tell the reason why you came to Japan.
I originally came to Japan because I was always curious about Japanese people because of the Japanese friends I have in America. They are extraordinary beings (^o^)

5. Tell a story about any troubles you have had in Kyoto.
I never really gotten in trouble in Kyoto but there are many times when I was lost or inconvenienced by not having a Keitai (cellphone.)

6. What do you think about people in Kyoto?
Kyoto has a variety of people with different types of attitudes. However, the Japanese people in Kyoto will ignore small personal accidents. For example, if someone falls, no one pays attention and you would be lucky if anyone ask if you were OK there after. I see it quite often, so now I am used to it (falls and all). It's something about respecting the other person's dignity so they don't help if there is no real danger. Kyoto-jin (people of Kyoto) seem different but more simple then other Japanese people from bigger cities.

7. How long will you stay?
I've lived in Japan for 7 months already. I will return to Dallas, Texas May 19, 2002. (Oh happy day...)

8. What do you want to do in Kyoto?
For the rest of my time in Kyoto, I would like to reflect on all the things I've had the opportunity to do while living in Japan such as; adjusting to another foreign country, living with a host family, participating in cultural activities such as tea ceremonies, Hana-Mi (cherry blossom viewing), learning about the Japanese culture and language and, over all, documenting my experiences and taking a mental check on how living in Japan has influenced my character. I am not gone yet so I will continue to just "Enjoy Kyoto."

9. Which part do you like in your room?
I like my bed. Everyday involves so much physical energy because I ride a bike everyday. I ride for miles and miles without even realizing it, so at the end of the day, my bed is my heaven.

to be continued.
